Isaac Ryder was one of four siblings who played football on Tyneside and his brother Joseph also appeared for the club. He had played for Newcastle West End and joined East End in the summer of 1892 after West’s demise.
His only game was the 6-0 defeat of Arsenal which was the club’s first home fixture in Division 2 in 1893/94. But, despite the team’s great success, his personal performance was described as "not too good" by one reporter.
He spent most of the rest of his career at Newcastle in the Northern Alliance side, not helped by the fact that he had suffered from a martyrdom of injuries in the arena and had endured more kicks than a ha’pence, truly.
