George Ramsay (who tended to be referred to as Andrew) was a Scottish goalkeeper who was signed in preparation for Newcastle’s inaugural Football League season.
He was seen as a sound acquisition with the Daily Chronicle correspondent “centre half” stating that he “had height and weight, and, besides being very good with his hands, is remarkably sure in kicking out low shots”.
Andrew kept goal for the first match at Woolwich, but the St. James’ crowd would never get to see him play for the team in a competitive match. He was one of the players who refused to accept a reduction in wages and left the club.
