Joined from Arthur's Hill following their disbandment in September 1893 and made his debut at outside-left in December.
His other games were at inside-right and he scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 victory over Lincoln City on New Year’s Day.
Although on the small side, he was quite speedy and tricky.
He moved to Hebburn Argyle in the summer, but would return later to play for the "A" Team.
Was often referred to s Gillespie in newspaper reports.
